Let them get used to it!

Gun dog pups are trained in stages, by the 7th to the 12th week socialization to humans starts. Get the pups used to children, teens and regular visitors of the family. Build up socialization skills with other species or pet dogs and even gradually introducing home appliances that get noisy when turned on and introduce pet gear that play a huge part in training-pet gates, grates, dogs beds. This stage is to let a pup get used to things which it must consider normal so it wont get distracted in future runs.

A word of caution though, socialization must take place in places of safety, for your pups sake. A designated room for socialization aside from the kennel is okay as long as it is on ground or separated by pet gates to keep them where you want them. One thing I've learned is to choose the people to socialize your pups with, lay down some rules for those participating. Its important all know the following: importance of the partitions or dog gates, no amateur training like getting a pup to jump down a few steps or from a high place. Explain that a pups bones are flexible, yes BUT they are also easily hurt- same can be said for tender muscles. Socialization is to have them get used to sights, smells and sounds it is important to not use this time to train a complex command. Stick to no-bite command or reprimand or  simple praise when retrieving talent is shown. Keep pups safe always and have them get used to the dog gate. This way your pup never gets ideas of having the run of the home.

Training a pup starts early on and doesn't have any breaks, it is constant and recurrent. As a gun dog article stated "A pup cannot be stored in a corner of the garage until its owner is ready to use it. It requires the same commitment of interest and attention as any other partner or family member. "
